From the very beginning, Sweet Reasons was built on a belief that dessert should feel indulgent, intentional, and made with heart. That belief was affirmed on a national stage when Candace Nelson, founder of Sprinkles Cupcakes, tasted one of Sweet Reasons’ creations on Cupcake Wars.
“Your cupcake was just a beautiful combination of flavor and texture. It was really indulgent and delightful… I found the substance of your cupcakes to be quite exquisite,” Nelson said.
In June 2013, the bakery competed on Food Network’s Cupcake Wars Season 9, Episode 9, advancing to the final round and earning first runner-up honors.
Founded by head baker Leonard (Lenny) Shafer, Sweet Reasons launched in October 2010 at an Orange County wine festival with just six cupcake varieties. The response from the community was immediate, laying the foundation for a business built on quality, consistency and personal connection. From the start, the bakery emphasized scratch-made desserts using real ingredients, a standard that continues today.
More than a decade later, Sweet Reasons remains a family-run business, known for treating customers as guests and for maintaining a hands-on commitment to service. Schafer, who also owns Clearwater Fire Grill, credits that philosophy—along with a refusal to cut corners—as the reason the bakery has endured both industry shifts and economic challenges while remaining a local favorite.

Hi! I’m Jennifer Bailey and I partner with entrepreneurs who have massive ideas that could change the world. Most marketing is meaningless. Filled with empty promises, its only job is to bring in new traffic, new leads, and new customers. But I’ve drawn a line in the sand, and I’ve learned that marketing can do so much more than reach business goals and build profit. My methods give businesses the fire and soul they need to reach the right people, set the groundwork for sustainable relationships, and offer true value to the people on both the giving and receiving ends of marketing.
