Skilled trades training is coming to Orange as Swaby Academy prepares to launch hands-on welding courses in early 2026. Founded by welding engineer Lee Swaby, the Academy will operate out of the former Harley-Davidson building on Route 20, where the facility is now being outfitted with equipment for live instruction.
The relaunch marks a major step forward for local workforce development. Swaby Academy’s return builds on more than a decade of work by founder Lee Swaby, who launched the vocational school in 2009 after years in welding engineering and contracting. His company later opened Fauquier County’s first welding supply store in 2015, expanding into a trusted provider of welding tools, gases and safety gear for customers across the region. Reviving the Academy in Orange marks the next step in his mission to strengthen the skilled trades workforce in Virginia.
Beginning January 12–13, 2026, Swaby Academy will offer MIG and Stick welding courses with weekday and evening options, along with a six-week accelerated Saturday program. TIG welding courses and AWS certification testing will follow.
Swaby said the goal is to bring accessible, career-ready training to students, career changers and adults looking to build skills in high-demand trades. The Academy is also recruiting local welders and professionals to serve as instructors.
“The Town of Orange has been incredibly welcoming,” Swaby said. “We’re honored to help create new pathways into the trades right here in the community.”
Enrollment is now open. More information is available at www.swabyacademy.com/enroll.

Hi! I’m Jennifer Bailey and I partner with entrepreneurs who have massive ideas that could change the world. Most marketing is meaningless. Filled with empty promises, its only job is to bring in new traffic, new leads, and new customers. But I’ve drawn a line in the sand, and I’ve learned that marketing can do so much more than reach business goals and build profit. My methods give businesses the fire and soul they need to reach the right people, set the groundwork for sustainable relationships, and offer true value to the people on both the giving and receiving ends of marketing.
